THE SML WAY
At the Sustainable Makers of London workshop, we want to help people make and create.
We’ve got great infrastructure, great knowledge and great people. With all the pressures on the environment and society, we believe making time for creativity is a vital part of the human condition.
We want creativity to be a sustainable practice. That means thinking sustainably about our methodologies, the materials we use and the resources we rely on.
We run various classes, from Medieval tile making to 4 week throwing courses. Find out more below:

MEMBERSHIP
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a seasoned ceramicist, you are very welcome to use our communal infrastructure services, our members have access to:
- x4 Throwing Wheels
- Bisque and Glaze firings in our two electric kilns
- Workbench usage
- Slab Roller
- Extruder
- Plaster area
- Communal drying room
- WIP communal shelves
- Dedicated pigeon hole for clay storage
- Dedicated Storage box

Our team comprises of several London-based artists. From ceramicists and potters to woodworkers, jewellers and designers, there’s surely a space for you to fit in and join a great community of creatives.

FAQs
How CAN I BECOME A MEMBER?
Our online website builder allows you to customise your membership plan to suit your making needs. Once you’ve made your plan you will receive a quote and our team will be in contact to arrange a tour of the studio, if you would like to book in a tour you can do so here. Once confirmed by you, our dedicated team will sign you up to our monthly membership plan.
What if I am a beginner?
We welcome all levels of maker at SML, the studio is designed to allow you to explore, learn and grow on your own schedule. Through our membership package you will receive 50% off all classes, have your own pigeonhole, collaborative workbenches, and have access to regular high and low kiln firings. Our member culture is one of collaboration and open communication.
Can i take a class without being a member?
You can take one of our many classes via our ClassBento site, we offer a wide range of classes spanning various interests, techniques and experience levels. Considering a membership? A class is a great way to see the space and be introduced to our fantastic technicians and tutors!
Can I become a member?
Anyone can become a member, no matter your skill level, just fill out one of our membership builders to be put in contact with our team for an induction, where you can learn the ropes of the studio.
